Kruger Rand

The Krugerrand is South Africa’s most iconic gold coin and one of the most successful bullion coins in the world. It was first minted in 1967 by the South African Mint to make gold ownership more accessible to everyday people. Named after former South African president Paul Kruger and featuring a springbok antelope, the coin quickly gained international popularity. By the 1980s, the Krugerrand dominated the global gold coin market, accounting for up to 90% of worldwide sales.

Made from 22-karat gold and reinforced with copper for durability, the Krugerrand is available in various sizes including 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz. It is recognized globally and can be easily sold anywhere at the current gold market price, making it one of the most liquid and tradeable forms of gold investment. In South Africa, Krugerrands are legal tender, and because they are classified as bullion, they are exempt from VAT. Their value is directly tied to the international gold price, making them a reliable and straightforward investment. Interestingly, the Krugerrand was the first modern gold bullion coin and remains one of the most widely traded coins in the world.
